Couples on Benches Photography Series

Couples on Bench Photography Series …. As I mentioned in my last post, I am trying out taking photographs in Black and White and I know that two of these are in colour…. but let me explain.

I shoot in Raw format with my Nikon D5300. I set the camera to take these shots in Monochrome Colour Profile … and went out to capture people enjoying the sunshine. When I returned home and opened these shots in Lightroom they previewed in Black and White and then changed to Colour when I opened them.

So I had both Colour and Black and White shots to choose from and I knew when I took the shot that there was something to it. So I have posted all three here, with different crops and one in Black and White.
I did ask the couple closest to the camera their permission to take these photographs, which isn’t always possible with street photography, but otherwise I don’t know their story except that they seem to be enjoying the sun and their lunch, in the Jardin des Champs-Élysées.

I am posting these on Twitter and Instagram and probably Reddit to get some feedback, so if you are on any of those social channels please let me know your thoughts. I am loving hearing what people think of my shots… good and bad.

Ladies on Steps Photography Series

Ladies on Steps Photography …. I took this series of photographs at La Defense, the financial district of Paris. I had just finished a photography session for a new client, Schlumberger, as I walked back towards the metro I noticed the steps and the shadows, so I sat down and watched. I hadn’t intended to take pictures but the scene just really interested me.

I’d like to say I got out my Nikon D5300 with lens here, but I had just packed it all away and I had my iphone in my hand. So these three shots are all taken with my old iphone 5c. Still a great little camera and more importantly it was in my hand and ready to capture the moment.

I posted these three shots on social media (Twitter and Instagram) and got some great comments and feedback, so check them out to see which one got the most votes, like and comments!

My editing and taking of photos has slowed recently with the French school holidays and having three children to manage. I love being able to spend time with my family but I am struggling to balance the two things at the moment. Also, we are embarking on moving out off Paris, so posts and photos may get a little sporadic, I will however try my best to keep the content coming on a regular basis.

Springtime Photographs

I’ve been out and about in the sun taking some Springtime photographs. The sun is out and its beautiful in Paris. This city comes back to life at this time of year. The Mairie’s of Paris take a lot of time to protect their flowers and green spaces… lots of fences and ‘no-go’ signs during the wet winter months, which used to get me down. However, the resulting flowers and formal green spaces are joy to see and smell.

I went out with my Nikon D5300 and the 85mm F1.8G lens on with the idea that I would isolate and capture the colours. I didn’t take a tripod and just hoped the light wouldn’t be too harsh. I prefer to take the shots on a higher shutter speed and with lowest ISO possible… ideally 100.  I open up the shutter to F2 or F2.8 on aperture priority and then just see what I can get.

I did take some of these in monochrome but I still working out how best to process the shots. Black and White photography is relatively new to me so I am nervous about publishing them just yet, but maybe I will step outside my comfort zone.

My editing and taking of photos has slowed recently with the school holidays and having three children to manage. I love being able to spend time with my family but I am struggling to balance the two things at the moment. Anyway, I hope you the flowers are out for you too!

RichFearon Photography | Seine Flooding Bridge Tunnel | Paris

Paris Flooding

The Paris Flooding has made world headlines. These shots are just a few that I took to cover the story.

There were a lot of places along the river that’s were effected by the rising water levels. I went out on my bike each day for about a week, looking for the shots. I tried the find moments that gave scale to flooding. So I looked for elements that I could relate to, i.e. road signs submerged, steps into water, things out of place.

I am uploading images for news and stock use all the time. If you like any of the shots they can be purchased at Alamy.com

Winter Photos in Paris

Paris in the springtime, Paris in the fall but Paris in winter? It has felt like a long dark winter this year, but then it snowed! It hasn’t snowed in Paris for six years, so we have been really lucky to see it. Paris changes dramatically when it snows, the place is quieter and the Parisians seem to turn into children for a brief moment. Style and sophistication goes out the window and snowball fights are the order of the day.

I haven’t done a lot of snow photography before so my preparation was a bit thin. I grabbed a clear plastic bag to keep the camera dry and stuck a couple of extra batteries in an inside coat pocket, to try and stop them going flat with the cold.

I chose to make them all black and white because I just think it fits. The bright white and the haziness just help to emphasis the cold.

Camera: Nikon D5300, 35mm and 11-16mm lenses.
